What Is the Respiratory Program Assistant?
CC-RESP-PROGRAM-ASSISTANT-001 v1.0 is a structured documentation framework built on the Compliance Crucible platform. It walks an employer through the elements of a written respiratory protection program under 29 CFR 1910.134 (applied to construction through 1926.103) and assembles them into a single, versioned, lockable record — program administration and administrator designation, scope and worksite hazard basis, program-level respirator selection, medical evaluation, fit testing, use procedures, maintenance and care, breathing air quality where atmosphere-supplying respirators are in use, filter/cartridge/canister identification, training, program evaluation, recordkeeping, and voluntary use (Appendix D).
The tool is guided rather than open-ended: fill-in-the-blank fields, checkboxes, and structured selections walk the user through each program element. Every element supports an explicit not-yet-determined state distinct from a blank field, and the assistant raises an open item whenever a required input is unknown. When a record is locked, the platform preserves an immutable server-side snapshot with a content hash — a fixed, dated version of what the program said at that moment. The tool records what the employer provides; it does not decide whether the program complies or whether work may proceed.

The program-of-record: every documented element rendered in order with its section review date, the not-yet-determined register, the open-items register, the section review schedule, live verified authority references, and the employer attestation.

Program-level registers surfacing every unresolved input and explicitly-unknown field with its element, so nothing is forced to look finished when it is not.
Authority Reference Panel
Verified federal authority citations for respiratory protection, retrieved live from the platform's reviewed authority library and attached to the record — pointers to the standard, never a judgment about the program.
Machine Audit JSON
Structured machine-readable export of the record, including identity and lock fields, all program elements, open items, and authority anchor provenance.
What the Tool Does Not Do
CC-RESP-PROGRAM-ASSISTANT-001 does not perform or substitute for any of the following:
- Determining regulatory compliance or stating that a program is compliant, approved, certified, or safe
- Calculating exposure levels, assigned protection factors, maximum use concentrations, or cartridge change-out schedules
- Selecting or assigning a respirator for a specific task or atmosphere — field/task determinations belong to a separate evaluation surface
- Making or interpreting medical findings, or substituting for PLHCP judgment
- Replacing industrial-hygiene judgment or employer decision-making
- Making state-plan determinations

Proper Use Case
Example — Written Respiratory Protection Program Documentation
A specialty contractor runs operations where employees wear respirators — some required by the hazards on file, some voluntary. The safety lead needs one reviewable written program: who administers it, what hazard basis it rests on, which respirator types are in use, how medical evaluation and fit testing are run, the use, maintenance, and training procedures, and how the program is evaluated and its records kept — with every not-yet-determined item visible instead of papered over.
The tool helps the employer structure, complete, and preserve that documentation as a versioned, lockable record with live verified authority references attached. It does not decide whether the program is compliant, whether a respirator is adequate for an exposure, or whether work may proceed. Those decisions remain with the employer and its qualified professionals.
Improper Use Cases
CC-RESP-PROGRAM-ASSISTANT-001 should not be used as any of the following:
- A statement that an employer or program is compliant, or that a record satisfies requirements
- A substitute for exposure assessment, air monitoring, or objective data
- A respirator selection, assignment, or adequacy determination, or an APF/MUC/change-out computation
- A substitute for PLHCP judgment, medical evaluation, or fit testing itself
- A statement that respirators or procedures are OSHA-approved or that work may proceed
- A professional legal, industrial-hygiene, or engineering service
Platform Access
CC-RESP-PROGRAM-ASSISTANT-001 is available through member-gated access. Active Compliance Crucible membership is required. Records persist to the member's organization workspace under row-level security and lock with a tamper-evident document verification value; a locked record recomputes to its stored hash.
